Yuri Thompson, Ph.D.

Dr. Yuri Thompson is a native Spanish speaker and bilingual provider who received a B.S. in Child Development and Spanish at Vanderbilt University before earning her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston in 2021. She is currently completing her postdoctoral training under the supervision of Dr. Forrester in 2023.

 

Dr. Thompson has extensive pediatric psychology training including rotations at Texas Children’s Hospital Pediatric Psychology, Texas Children’s Center for Children and Women, TIRR Memorial Hermann, Baylor College of Medicine- Children’s Nutrition Research Center, The Children’s Assessment Center, and Counseling & Psychological Services-Houston Independent School District. Dr. Thompson’s clinical experience and research has emphasized multiculturalism and early intervention. She has expertise in a wide variety of childhood issues including, anxiety, depression, attention problems, disruptive behaviors, feeding and elimination disorders, medical adherence/adaptation issues, child trauma, and Autism spectrum disorder.

 

Dr. Thompson enjoys working with children and parents through a strengths-based approach that makes use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Parent Management Training. Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Psychological Association.

 

As the mother of three young children, Dr. Thompson has perspective on the joys and challenges of raising children in today’s climate, which allows her to connect more empathetically with the families she serves. Dr. Thompson seeks to provide children and families with a safe, nurturing environment laced with playfulness and humor. In her downtime, Dr. Thompson enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, cooking, and eating.
